Sarah Autz - Focus on Therapy and Social Issues in New York
With a background in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Sarah Autz is a Brooklyn resident who has worked in areas such as mental illness and substance use. While attending the Silberman School of Social Work, she interned with Exodus Transitional Community Inc. Sarah Autz created and coordinated a company-wide Gender and Sexuality workshop that educated staff members on issues facing the LGBTQIA+ community, appropriate terminology, and how to properly engage the members of this marginalized community.
Through the workshops, Ms. Autz also brought focus to the justice system and its impact on those identifying as LGBTQIA+. Her areas of extensive knowledge include mental health, substance use, and the impact of trauma on marginalized communities. She also delivered therapeutic treatment incorporating various methodologies, and at her internship helped form and facilitated an LGBTQIA+ support group that addressed areas such as emotional regulation, trauma, mental health, and substance use. In addition to the LGBTQIA+ support group, Ms. Autz also facilitated multiple psychoeducational groups, reshaping and enhancing the groups' existing curriculums with great success.
Ms. Autz earned her BA in psychology at Wesleyan University and was a coordinator of the campus chapter of Eye to Eye, which assists students with learning disabilities and ADHD. A music enthusiast, Sarah Autz is a member of two choirs, Transcend and Choral Chameleon.
